What is Project “Health” and How is it Measured?

Health is an at-a-glance read on whether the project is on track according to its schedule, so you can spot any that need attention without opening every project.

Written by Jen Gadus

Once a project moves into your Work in Progress (WIP) list, Riffle shows a Health badge on each project.

You'll see Health in two places: the Health column on the WIP project list (pictured above), and as a badge on each card in the WIP board view (pictured below):

The Health labels

Every active WIP project gets one of these:

  • Scheduled: the project hasn't started yet. Its planned start date is still in the future.

  • Healthy: the project is on track. The planned finish is more than 14 days away.

  • At Risk: the planned finish is within 14 days. Worth a look to make sure it stays on schedule.

  • Overdue: the planned finish date has passed and the project isn't marked complete yet.

  • Complete: the work is finished and the project has moved into its closeout stages.

Hover over any label to see a short tooltip with the detail, like "Starts in 6 days" or "3 days past planned completion."

How Health is measured

Health is based on your planned dates compared to today.

Riffle looks at the planned start and finish dates across the project's deliverables. The earliest start and the latest finish become the job's overall planned window. From there:

  • If the start is still ahead of today → Scheduled

  • If today is past the finish → Overdue

  • If the finish is 14 days out or less → At Risk

  • If the finish is further out than that → Healthy

  • Once the project reaches its completion stages → Complete

You don't set Health yourself. It's calculated from the dates already on the project, and it updates on its own each day. That means a project can move from Healthy to At Risk as its finish date gets closer, with no action from you.

When a project shows no Health label

Some projects won't have a label yet. That's expected in two cases:

  • The project is still in Prep & Setup, before its schedule is filled in.

  • The project has no planned dates on its deliverables yet.

Add planned dates to the project's deliverables and a Health label will appear.

💡 Tips

  • Sorting: You can sort the WIP list by Health values to group projects by where they stand; "Scheduled" through to "Complete". Projects with no label sort to the bottom.

  • Complete vs. Overdue: A project that reaches its completion stages shows Complete even if it finished after the planned date. Health reflects where the project is now, not whether it hit every date along the way.

  • It's schedule-based: Health measures the project against its planned timeline. It isn't a budget or cost measure — those live in the Cost Tracking columns.
