A relationship status is a label you assign to a company in Riffle to reflect your working relationship with them. It helps Riffle understand which partners matter most to your business, so it can prioritize incoming projects more accurately.
Where you’ll see relationships
Relationship status badges appear in several places across Riffle:
Project Inbox & Opportunities: below the name in the “Company” column, so you can quickly see who's inviting you.
Project Overview: in the “Bidders/GCs” section and in the “Priority Match Criteria” card, where it factors into your project's priority score.
Companies: in the “Status” column of your company list and inside the company detail panel.
People: in the “Company Status” column of your people list
⚠️ Although you'll see relationship status badges throughout Riffle, you can only edit them in the Companies panel.
The four Relationship Statuses available for any company
Relationship Status | Result | Explanation |
Preferred | These are your most trusted partners whose ITBs you would almost always prioritize. You’ve probably bent over backwards for these guys more than once!
Good | These are reliable partners you work with regularly but may not always choose over others.
Problematic | These companies have a history of being difficult to work with. Maybe they repeatedly pay late, communicate poorly, or just don’t fit the mold of your ideal customer.
Empty/Blank | No relationship status has been added yet; these partners are treated as neutral. |
How Preferred partners affect scoring
Riffle adds 2 points to the score, effectively making projects from Preferred partners the only ones that can be rated as "high" depending on your other preferences.
How Good partners affect scoring
Riffle adds 1 point to the score, making any project from a good partner a "mid" or "low" priority, depending on how other factors match.
How Problematic partners affect scoring
Riffle subtracts 2 points from the score, effectively setting its priority to Low, regardless of how well the other factors match. Riffle will never hide the project from you from you but an admin can choose whether or not to automatically decline ITBs from Problematic partners by visiting Settings → Project Preferences.
How Unmarked partners affect scoring
There is no requirement in Riffle to add these statues to any partners. Companies without a status are treated as neutral, neither adding nor subtracting any points from the project priority score.
How to set a relationship status
⚠️ To set a relationship status, the company has to be added to your Contacts section. Ensure the company you are trying to flag is added to your contacts list by looking for known company names (underlined) vs. unknown company names (not underlined).
Make a selection in the "Company Relationship Status" section within the panel.
Confirm the change in the dialog that appears.
To remove a status, press “Clear” in the same section. The company will return to Unmarked.
Why Relationship Statuses Matter
Tagging your partners allows you to quickly filter through hundreds of incoming ITBs and see only those from your favorite partners; but more importantly, unlocks Advanced Scoring. The more partners you tag, the more useful your priority scores become. Without any partners tagged, Riffle can only score projects based on trade, project type, and distance.
⚠️ If your team updates (or adds) a relationship status for a company, Riffle won’t "re-score" existing projects with that company. Only future projects will be scored according to any updated settings.
💡 Tips for Relationship Statuses
Start by tagging the companies you work with most. Even a handful of tagged partners will improve your priority scoring.
Review your statuses periodically. Relationships change, and a Problematic partner might improve, or a Good partner might earn Preferred status, over time.
Your whole team sees the same statuses, so coordinate with your estimating and project management teams when tagging.
